Test Run Blog

We are committed to a clear, fair blog.

Many users ask us about the roadmap for the Test Run Beta, and when we will begin accepting paying for Test Run. So we wanted to take a moment and answer the most common questions up front right here on the Test Run blog so that the answers are available to everyone.

Beta Update

The Test Run Beta is getting better and better. We often feel that we should have released this as an "alpha" because in the beginning there were a large number of nagging and annoying problems with the software. If you have tried Test Run in the past and felt it was too immature for general use you were probably right. But we encourage to try it out again as it has come a very, very long way.

Beta 8 vs. Beta 9

Right now we are developing two different versions of Test Run. The first is the one in wide deployment today and the one currently available for download. In this version we are trying to address the immediate concerns and issues that customers are facing and reporting to us today. If you have and report a problem, chances are it will get fixed and be released in the Beta 8 series.

The second version of Test Run we are working on is the Beta 9 series which includes the largest number of feature enhancements, a completely revised user interface and all the AJAX you can eat. The timeframe for this version is unknown, but development progresses, and it looks great so far. When we are ready we will make a version of this available for people to play with so you can see what is in store.

Licensing and Pricing

We are still debating which version of Test Run we will go to market with. It is possible that we will begin accepting payments when the Beta 8 series is stable and complete. In that case, the Beta 8 series will become known as "Test Run 1.0" making the Beta 9 series known as the "Test Run 1.1 Beta." But this depends solely upon the relative stability of the Beta 9 series and whether we think it is worth delaying a wider release in order to bring a much more advanced version of the software to our users.

As for pricing, when Test Run is finally released it will retail at $750, with an introductory price of $499. This will ensure that all Beta customers have an opportunity to buy Test Run at a signigicant discount.

Pricing for Test Run Online, however, will be very different. In the current pricing plan published online, there are tiers of service based upon the number of users you will have using the product. When Test Run is officially released this will change. Under the new pricing plan there will only be two prices for using Test Run Online: the Free Trial version, and the Paid version. The Free Trial version allows a single user to use Test Run indefinately completely free of charge, while the Paid version allows an unlimitted number of users use Test Run Online. The Paid version will be priced at $50 per month.

Summary

That's it. If you have additional questions we encourage you to ask us. For those of you who have already submitted bug reports, questions and feature requests: thank you! Your input has been incredibly valuable and is helping us hone and refine the application to address the most common use cases and needs our customers have. Keep the feedback coming.
